On June 16 at 15:00 - 16:15, St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will host a discussion on the fight against global climate change and the place of the Russian Federation in the global environmental agenda.
Outside the Moscow, in Krasnogorsk the Environmental Forum of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Nature was hosted.
The first Deputy Head of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection called the global climate change the most important problem of modern mankind.
According to her, the task is to ‘include Russia's position in the global agenda of the transition to sustainable development’.
The Congress was attended by representatives of Russian and foreign banks, agencies and organizations. The climate agenda, changes in the economy, global trends in ESG and disclosure of information on sustainable development were the main topics of discussion. The event was held in anticipation to the climate conference in Glasgow. It will be held in November, the participating countries will present their strategies and programmes to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
The Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation plans to launch a national system of circulation and accounting of carbon units in the first half of 2022. This was announced at the International Congress on Sustainable Finance: Ecumene 2021 by the head of the Ministry of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov.
The discussion took place within the session ‘Reaching UNSDGs by 2030: Next Steps’.
Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation expects to introduce a bill on experimental carbon regulation by the end of 2021, the Ministry said in a statement referring to the words of Minister Maksim Reshetnikov at the International Congress Ecumene 2021 on Sustainable Finance. Mr. Reshetnikov also noted that by the end of the year amendments will be made to the law on greenhouse gas emissions, and the verification of reports of Russian enterprises will begin.
At the discussion ‘Energy Industry in the Age of Energy Transition’ at the ECUMENE 2021 Congress (16+) Speakers considered ways to make the energy transition and achieve the energy balance competently. According to the Moderator of the discussion, Natalya Tretyak, First Vice President of Gazprombank JSC, the relevance of the energy transition has long ceased to be a debatable issue on the global agenda, since the need for such a transition is recognized by all.
